Journalist, Children Shot Dead by Israel: Who Is The Terrorist Now?

Palestinians bury their dead after Israel kills nine in border protests

In all, 22 Palestinians were killed in Gaza over the past week, including 16 involved in last Friday's protests, according to Gaza health officials.

Also among the dead was 15-year-old Hussein Mohammed Madi from Gaza City.

Israeli forces have shot dead seven Palestinians and wounded more than 1,000 as tens of thousands participated in a mass demonstration demanding the right of return for Palestinian refugees.

The London protesters carried signs and waved banners calling for an end to the Israeli regime's brutal blockade on the tightly populated Gaza since 2007.

The Israeli daily Haaretz quoted Israeli army sources as saying on Saturday that they would react forcefully if the alleged attempts to damage the fence continued.

The Israeli military says its troops will only use live fire against people trying to sabotage the border fence, rolling burning tyres towards it or throwing stones.

"Following the earlier report regarding the suspects who infiltrated [into] Israel through the security fence near the Northern Gaza Strip, IDF troops located two explosive devices placed by the terrorists at the scene", an Israel Defense Forces statement said.

As last Friday's protest got under way, six Israeli high school students who were on a study visit to Nahal Oz, clambered up an abandoned guard tower to peer into Gaza.

The Committee to Protect Journalists put out an advisory to reporters covering Friday's protests, after 10 Palestinian journalists were injured during protests on 30 March. The army said it foiled several attempts to breach the border fence Friday.

Ashraf Abu Amra, a freelance journalist who spoke to Reuters, said that he and Murtaja were standing by each other filming tires being set on fire when Israeli forces opened fire.

The demonstrations largely abated by Saturday, but three Palestinians were wounded by Israeli forces in a small clash east of Gaza City in the afternoon, one of them seriously, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

The EU has questioned Israel's use of force during clashes.

Haim Jelin, a legislator from Israel's opposition centrist Yesh Atid party, and a resident of nearby Kibbutz Beeri, agreed with the government in rejecting United Nations and European Union calls for an inquiry into Israel's killing of protesters.

It remains to be seen if the European Union, which brands itself as a champion of human rights, will consider this Friday's death toll to be more "proportional" than last week.

Palestinian leaders say Israel has fired indiscriminately at peaceful protesters.
