Fans Fired Up For Wild's 6th Straight Playoff Appearance

Winnipeg Jets fans celebrate Joe Morrow's game-winning goal against the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday

The Jets entered the playoffs on a five-game winning streak and a 9-1 record over their last 10, and they're far ahead of schedule, leapfrogging preseason expectations of playing spoiler to enter their first postseason series in three years.

At least that should be the takeaway following Game 2 on Friday night at Bell MTS Place, as the Wild were held to three shots in the third period of an embarrassing 4-1 loss to the Jets. "I don't think (we took our foot off the gas)". They were standing up on us and every time we got it in, we threw a guy on an island with one forechecker.

"I certainly wasn't trying to hit him when he was down like that", Kadri said after Thursday night's game. Copp redirected a shot from Bryan Little for his goal. It's hard to deny they have rights to it, given that Shane Doan, the final first-round pick of the original Jets franchise, followed the team to Phoenix and played there from 1996 until his retirement past year. Home-ice advantage in the playoffs, you have it for a reason.

This is the sixth consecutive year the Wild have made it to the playoffs. It is one game and in that game give the Jets defenders credit, they shut down the Wild top line.

Near the end of Game 2 against the Winnipeg Jets, all h-e-double hockey sticks broke out, resulting in four fighting majors, four misconducts, and a handful of minor penalties.

Expect Patrik Laine to spearhead Winnipeg's efforts in the attacking zone as he tries to build off scoring in Game 1.

Mark Schiefele added a power-play goal, and Connor Hellebuyck made 18 saves for the Jets.

"Sure, we'd like to work on our curling ability and have it stop before the line but I think if you're in doubt or in those tough situations, you'd rather make a hard play rather than anything soft and questionable", he said.

Minnesota did look risky in the first five minutes of the game, firing the first five shots.

Byfuglien set up the second goal with just over 12 minutes left in the third, giving Stastny a sharp pass from behind the net which the veteran centre one-timed. They were aggressive all over the ice.

If the Wild can bait the Jets into the kind of penalties they fell victim to in recent seasons, maybe Minnesota will have a shot to offset some of Winnipeg's statistical advantages here, but the safe bet is on the Jets simply overpowering their division rivals with the strength of their power play.

Matt Cullen and Zach Parise scored for Minnesota. The Wild have now gone 18-24 on the road and they have averaged 2.79 gpg and have allowed 3.41 gpg in those games.

Midway through the game, former Calder Trophy victor, defenceman Tyler Myers walked around Minny's Jason Zucker, before shifting his way directly to the Wild cage, and burying a quick snapshot past the near-unbeatable Devan Dubnyk.

The Jets continued to attack into the third and finally scored a second goal at the 6:42 mark when Patrick Laine, the 19-year-old Finnish sensation, got the puck from the back of the Wild net to Byfuglien - a defenceman, remember - and Byfuglien slipped the puck out to Paul Stastny, who flicked it high over Dubnyk's glove.

"We've got to play a lot better than we have in the first two", Parise said.

"We've got to find it now", said Mikko Koivu, of the famous hockey family from Turku, Finland. "We count on him".

Minnesota is competing in its sixth-straight post-season.

Despite being unable to beat Dubnyk early on, the Jets continued to play with a playoff confidence not seen before by Winnipeg fans.

Jets forward Mathieu Perreault left in the second period with an upper-body injury and head coach Paul Maurice had no update.
