New setback for Netanyahu as ex-aide signs state witness deal

Police question Netanyahus under caution in graft case

President Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday that he may want to visit his country for the opening of a USA embassy in Jerusalem, a flash point in potential peace talks with the Palestinians.

Benjamin Netanyahu, right, seen with Donald Trump on May 23, was set to meet with the USA president in Washington on Monday.

"That was a decision I had to make", Trump said in the Oval Office on Monday.

Trump's decision for the United States to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move the embassy there from Tel Aviv reversed decades of US policy, aggravated Arab allies and has complicated his administration's attempt to revive long-stalled Middle East peace talks.

The timetable for transfer of the USA embassy in Israel is uncertain. "I think we're as close now as maybe ever before".

"Other leaders talked about it", said Netanyahu.

Trump and Netanyahu were expected to discuss Iran's growing influence in Syria and the USA nuclear deal brokered by former President Obama at Monday's meeting.

The Israeli prime minister highlighted Iran's influence in the Middle East as a matter of crucial importance to discuss with the president.

It came after police last month said they had sufficient evidence for his indictment for graft, fraud and breach of trust in two other cases.

"Last night a state's witness deal was signed between the Investigations, Intelligence and Commerce Monitoring Divisions at the Israel Securities Authority and the Israel Police National Economic Crime Unit. and Nir Hefetz", a police statement released by the Justice Ministry said. "And I think we have to stop this country".

"We're looking at coming, if I can I will, Israel is very special to me, special country, special people, I look forward to being there and I'm very proud of that decision", said the United States president.

Netanyahu and his wife Sarah Netanyahu were questioned by investigators Friday as part of an ongoing investigation into whether they took bribes from the owner of Israel's largest telecommunications company, Bezeq. "That is our common challenge", said Netanyahu.

He is due to speak at the pro-Israel lobbying group the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's (Aipac) annual conference on Tuesday, where he has previously been received as a hero. "Is that good?" Trump said. "We're looking at coming.

And we seek also to broaden that peace to the Palestinians".

The Palestinians see east Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.

The Trump administration has no plans to use Netanyahu's visit to roll out peace proposals Kushner's team is crafting, a second USA official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. I said, 'A billion?

Trump also said his administration is working "very hard" on a peace deal, but acknowledged potential problems.
