Anti-wall crowd shouts at border crossing before Trump visit

US president is off to visit California first time since he won the election

President Donald Trump arrived in San Diego on Tuesday morning, kicking off his first visit to California since taking office.

Speaking later at California's Marine Corps Air Station, the President suggested there could be a "space force" akin to the country's air force.

Trump's comments came as he toured eight prototypes for his long-promised U.S. -Mexico border wall at a site southeast of downtown.

"I think Gov. Brown has done a very poor job of running California".

Last week, the Trump administration sued California over its sanctuary laws and Brown responded that the feds had declared war on the state. "They don't care about the kind of things that you and I care about". "And, by the way, the state of California is begging us to build walls in certain areas".

Regarding cooperation with Mexico, President Trump said "both countries recognize the need to stem the cross border flow of illegal weapons, drugs, people, and cash". "No wall!" near the San Ysidro border crossing, where tens of thousands of people enter the US daily from Tijuana, Mexico, many on their way to work or school in San Diego.

A fundraiser President Trump is headlining Tuesday night will take place at the Beverly Park mansion of Shari and Edward Glazer, co-chairman of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to a source familiar with security arrangements for the event.

California officials have defiantly refused to help federal agents detain and deport immigrants in the USA illegally, and the Justice Department sued the state last week over three of its immigration laws.

Monday, the administration went as far as to accuse California's laws, bizarrely, of bankrolling human trafficking rings.

Trump appeared engaged as he was briefed on eight towering prototypes, including one with blue steel on top.

Trump was scheduled to give a speech to members of the military later on Tuesday before heading back to Washington.

Last week, Trump's Justice Department filed a lawsuit accusing California of violating the US Constitution and putting federal agents in danger by approving laws protecting illegal immigrants. You have 'sanctuary cities, ' where they have criminals living in the sanctuary cities. Protests were also held on the Mexican side, in Tijuana.

He'll also address U.S. military personnel stationed near the border and attend the fundraiser in Los Angeles. And he said the wall has to be made very hard to scale because undocumented immigrants are like "professional mountain climbers".

- Jaime chambers (@jaimechambers) March 13, 2018A small fracas broke out at pro-Trump rally in San Diego when a protester in a auto dropped a Mexican flag.

The Trump administration is now at odds with the state over the issue of sanctuary cities.

"You see, in California we are focusing on bridges, not walls", Brown wrote.

"These policies release unsafe criminal offenders to prey on innocent people, and nullify the federal law", the president said.

Trump has long said he wanted to visit the models himself so he can pick a victor, though the Department of Homeland Security says elements of each design are expected to be used. He added that Border Patrol had "done a fantastic job" in constructing the prototypes.
