Distracted Apple Employees Accidentally Walking Into Glass Panels at Apple Park

Apple Campus

Too immersed in their iPhones, the employees repeatedly ran into the glass-walled workspaces, Bloomberg reports. However, these had to be removed because "they detracted from the building's design". Inside are work spaces, dubbed "pods", also made with a lot of glass.

Some of the staff have taken to sticking Post-It notes, or marking the glass as a literal heads-up.

With the size and facility to house almost 13,000 employees, the £3.5bn ($4.9bn) Apple Park was originally proposed by Steve Jobs shortly before his death in 2011.

No word on whether Apple's much shorter spaceship office suffers from similar issues. Apparently, Apple called for precision levels more akin to iPhone assembly specifications than the 1/8th of an inch deviation that's standard in the construction industry. Unfortunately, their effort was curbed after superiors thought that the notes would interfere with the building's design. Employees are not allowed to discuss anything related to Apple with outsiders.

Apple is discovering that sleek architecture doesn't necessarily play nicely with health & safety, after multiple reported cases of Apple Park staff walking into glass doors and windows.

Apple's new spaceship campus that opened previous year is one attractive headquarters. No records were found. California laws require employees to be "protected against the hazard of walking through glass by barriers or by conspicuous durable markings", so the company could be fined if it does not find a better solution for marking doors and walls - or it keeps removing Post-it notes put up with the expressed goal for just that.

In a Reuters profile past year, workers and contractors described a relentless perfectionism that went into the campus' construction. So let's dive in to see some more details on the matter.

One of the most vexing features was the doorways, which Apple wanted to be perfectly flat, with no threshold.

As you'd expect, Apple isn't commenting and won't let the general public into the building. So if you see one of their employees with eyeglasses held together with tape, don't be quick to assume it's a nerd thing.
