Svitolina ends Kostyuk's campaign at Australian Open

SVITOLINA

"She's a great player, but I learnt that I can play against everyone". Kostyuk, who got a wildcard into the qualifiers, where she came through three three-set matches, said she struggled with the heat and was low on energy, but more than any of that was disappointed with her play.

One of five players who have a chance to finish the Australian Open as world number, she is now the only seed left in her section of the draw.

Svitolina had been firming as one of the favourites in a wide open race for the Melbourne Park crown after winning the Brisbane International warm-up event.

Kostyuk, who had nine double faults on Friday, including on match point, received an entry into qualifying because of her junior girls' victory past year at the Australian Open.

No. 3-seeded Grigor Dimitrov beat No. 30 Andrey Rublev 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in just over three hours in an afternoon match on Rod Laver Arena and said "the heat didn't scare me at all today - that's a good sign". "I think this limit should be a little bit lower".

In her previous match, Wozniacki had to save two match points on an epic comeback from 5-1 down in the third set against Croatian Jana Fett, so she was thrilled to avoid another drawn-out battle against Bertens. "I am sure we are going to hear about her again in the future". The kid broke to love in the opening game, but then immediately dropped her own serve, and the senior citizen - everything being relative, for she is still just 23 - then won five of the next six games, and, eventually the match in just under an hour.

"Right now I've got nothing to lose ..."

Svitolina - the only seeded player remaining in her quarter of the draw - advanced to a fourth-round clash against Czech qualifier Denisa Allertova, who moved into the last 16 at a major for the first time with a commanding 6-1 6-4 win over Poland's Magda Linette.

"She raised her game and whenever you give her pace on the ball she hits winners all over the place", said Martic. No. 19 Magdalena Rybarikova had a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 win over Kateryna Bondarenko.

"Other than that, you need to be mentally tough and ready to just suffer out there".
