Jon Gruden To Be Announced As New Raiders Coach

Gruden accumulated a 38-26 overall record as the Raiders coach and was 2-2 in playoff games during his four seasons.

This season Oakland missed the playoffs with a final record of 6-10, after ending a 14-year postseason drought a season ago finishing 12-4.

Since 2009, he has been a color commentator for ESPN's Monday Night Football.

The Raiders have called a significant news conference for Tuesday, at which time they will introduce Gruden as the team's next coach, a league source confirmed to ESPN.

The 54-year-old Gruden spent four seasons as Oakland's head coach from 1998 through 2001 before getting traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Carolina Panthers coordinator Greg Olson is expected to be Gruden's offensive coordinator and Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther is a top candidate for Oakland's defensive coordinator position.

Owner Mark Davis hopes that will all change now that he has finally lured Gruden back for a second stint as the team's coach.

The NFL on Friday said the Raiders have complied with the Rooney Rule in their coaching search.

He last coached for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leading them to their first and only Super Bowl.

"We believe the Rooney Rule was complied with". The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Raiders were not releasing the names of candidates.

Other teams have also done it, with one of the most recent notable coaching hires being Joe Gibbs in Washington.
