Here's How Facebook Plans To Develop Products For Your Kids

Facebook have launched a Messenger app just for kids

Facebook also said it would block children from sharing nudity, sexual or violent content, and have a dedicated moderation team to respond to flagged content.

The app offers a simplified version of the standard Messenger, requiring explicit parental approval and excluding some features. Children can send photos, videos or text messages to parent-approved friends and adult relatives. Children and their parents download the stand-alone app to their smartphone or tablet to use, but parents control every aspect of who their children talk to from their own Facebook account.

The company said it had spent months talking to parenting groups, child behavioural experts and safety organisations to aid in developing the app, as well as thousands of hours interviewing families on the ways members communicated with one another.

Does your kid need a Facebook account?

If you're interested in testing it out, Messenger Kids is now available for Apple products in the United States only. As with Instagram, Facebook or Snapchat, children can add filters or playful drawings to the photos they send. Facebook is including "kid-appropriate masks, frames, stickers, and GIFs [to] spark conversation and laughter".

The U.K. health secretary on Tuesday attacked Facebook's plans to create an app for young users, telling the social media platform to "stay away from my kids".

Marketing mattersFacebook said Messenger Kids will not display any advertisements or it will not collect data for marketing, though it will collect some data so that the app can necessary to run the service. But, per the app's privacy policy, Facebook reserves the right to share information with third parties, which must in turn have their own privacy policies to protect children.

Of course, social networks are also a great way to check if other people are experiencing the same problem as you.

'Facebook told me they would come back with ideas to PREVENT underage use of their product, but instead they are actively targeting younger children. A recent study from Common Sense Media found that parents are more skeptical of the benefits of social media for their children then they are of smartphones or even wearable devices.

It's an early version of the app with limited availability.

The new application aims to provide kids with a safe way to video call or message friends and loved ones whenever and wherever they want. "The question becomes: Do we simply ban them and fight a losing fight?"
