Flynn Said Russian Sanctions Would be 'Ripped Up,' Whistle-Blower Says

Michael Flynn sent a text to a business partner as President Donald Trump was delivering his inaugural address last January that a joint plan between Russian Federation and Flynn's business allies to build nuclear power plants in the Middle East was "good to go".

Cummings asked Gowdy to meet with the whistleblower and to subpoena White House officials and figures connected to the project, a proposal to build nuclear power plans across the Middle East.

Copson told the whistle-blower that Flynn was making sure the sanctions would be ripped up, which would allow money to start flowing into the project.

An unnamed colleague of the text message's recipient informed the top Democrat on the House of Representatives' oversight and government reform committee, Elijah Cummings, who published the claims in an open letter yesterday. "This is going to make a lot of very wealthy people".

Cummings said the whistleblower, whom he did not identify in the letter, "fears retaliation", but would speak with Gowdy if he agrees to protect the whistleblower's identity.

"Mike has been putting everything in place for us", Mr Copson allegedly told the whistleblower, Mr Cummings wrote. The administration has not lifted sanctions on Russian Federation.

Attorneys for Flynn and Copson did not immediately return email and phone requests for comment.

"I do not bring this whistle-blower to your attention lightly", Cummings said.

That's the explosive, but unverified, allegation of a whistleblower cooperating with House Democrats probing the myriad scandals surrounding Flynn, who pleaded guilty earlier this month to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his contacts with a senior Russian diplomat. But it's not. Cummings provided hard evidence that he wants to form the basis of a subpoena created to uproot what really happened.

As part of his plea deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating alleged collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, Flynn agreed to be a cooperative witness in exchange for avoiding prosecution on other charges that might be related to his involvement with Russian Federation during the campaign, the presidential transition and his brief stint as national security adviser.

Gowdy also recommended that Cummings present the claims to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, despite Cummings' indications in his letter Wednesday that his staff had been in touch with Mueller's team and had been given the green light to move forward. The whistleblower saw that the time stamp of the message was 12:11 pm, but did not read the text.

The witness told Cummings and committee investigators that Copson shared a text message he had just received from Flynn, who was on stage at the Capitol during Trump's speech.

Flynn was involved in the Middle Eastern nuclear project from spring 2015 to the end of 2016, according to recent financial disclosure filings, a period that overlapped with his role as a prominent adviser to Trump's campaign and transition.

ACU Strategic Partners has declined comment or make Mr Copson available for an interview.
