Congressional investigators discover more emails related to infamous Trump Jr. meeting

"I don't believe you can shield communications between individuals merely by having an attorney present That's not the objective of attorney-client privilege".

The initial statement released by Team Trump about the meeting - which also included Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and ex-campaign chair Paul Manafort - said that the discussion centered on United States sanctions on Russia that it responded to by canceling USA adoptions of Russian children.

According to a subsequent Washington Post report, President Trump "personally dictated" a misleading statement Trump Jr. released about the meeting.

Trump Jr. has kinda sorta denied anything else took place after the meeting, but he's left open the possibility: "I have no recollection of any documents being offered or left for us", he told Senate investigators in September.

Once it became apparent that she did not have meaningful information about Clinton, Trump seemed to lose interest, Veselnitskaya said, and the meeting petered out.

Donald Trump Jr.is headed to the Senate Judiciary Committee today where behind closed doors, far from the ears of the American public, he's going to testify about his involvement in the possible collusion with Russian Federation that occurred during the Donald Trump campaign. But he refused to disclose the contents of their conversations.

During a scrum with reporters following Wednesday's hearing, Schiff told reporters he didn't think Trump Jr.'s invocation of attorney-client privilege was appropriate.

According to Committee Democrats, most of the 8-hour interview revolved around the younger Trump's notorious meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya at Trump Tower June of 2016, though some questions focused on Trump Jr.'s correspondence with WikiLeaks.

"If it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer", Trump Jr. wrote to the intermediary, in reference to obtaining the compromising information about Clinton.

"We will be following up with his counsel", Schiff said. The congressman said that Mr. Trump's lawyer, Alan S. Futerfas, asked the committee for more time to answer questions about that conversation because both he and a lawyer for the president were privy to it. The official line from the Trump Administration since day one has been that that meeting was just about adoption. Additionally, a conversation that includes a party and his attorney along with a third party that the attorney does not represent would generally not be considered privileged. If, on the other hand, there were any non-represented parties present for all or part of this conversation then at least that portion of the conversation would not be protected by privilege and could not be revealed or compelled.

Other lawmakers, Republicans as well as Democrats, say the goal of their investigation is to guarantee the integrity of USA elections, not to target Trump and his associates. In either case, it could be some time before the matter is resolved while the rest of the investigation moves forward.
