NFL Ratings Aren't Reacting to Taking a Knee As Trump Wants

Donald Trump Urges Fans to Boycott NFL in Ongoing Criticism of Flag-Kneeling Players

Week 3's average rating/share was 11.9/25.

The battle over NFL ratings has exploded during Week 3 of the season with President Donald Trump tweeting that the ratings are "way down" because of athletes protesting the national anthem.

Snagging a 9.3 metered-market result and the best ratings of the season so far, last night's MNF was a thankful ratings touchdown for a league that has been losing ground in that metric so far this season and all of previous year.

National Football League ratings were also down an average of 8% over the course of last season.

The early ratings numbers, which are incomplete and subject to a great deal of change, showed CBS' numbers up compared to the same week a year ago, while NBC and Fox's numbers were down.

Next week's ratings will be even more closely watched, since conservative groups and Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity have called for people angered by the protests to boycott this weekend's games.

"NFL attendance and ratings are WAY DOWN", President Trump tweeted Sunday morning.

Earlier in the week, "Thursday Night Football" saw a ratings surge with Los Angeles Rams-San Fransisco 49ers on NFL Network drawing a 4.4 final household rating, up 38% from week three, and 7.4 million total viewers, up 47% from last week. Additionally, CBS' NFL Today pregame show scored its highest rating since 2010. "People are watching less and the thing people don't realize is that NFL's decline got a lot of attention last season but the decline was happening before that".

WXIA fact checkers can VERIFY that ratings were lower for Sunday night's games on some networks but higher on another. "Ratings for NFL football are way down except before game starts, when people tune in to see whether or not our country will be disrespected!"

During the speech he said any player who protests racism by kneeling during the national anthem is a 'son of a b****'.

Only six players protested during the anthem in Week 2, but after Trump's criticism over the weekend, around 200 players took part on Sunday.

This has become a volatile time for the National Football League, as it has to not only deal with President Trump's comments, but also added scrutiny from fans, non-fans, and the media.
