Now US Has Company in Raising Pressure on Iran Over Missile

A ballistic missile is launched and tested in an undisclosed location Iran

The agreement was signed between Iran and the US, Russia, China and three European powers during Barack Obama's presidential tenure.

Tehran says the new measures violate its 2015 deal with world powers that eased sanctions in exchange for curbs on its nuclear programme, an agreement which Trump has repeatedly threatened to tear up.

The new sanctions come only a day before Iran's re-elected moderate president Hassan Rouhani is sworn in for a new term. Congress has now left it up to Donald Trump to navigate these pitfalls to ensure the continued successful implementation of the nuclear accord.

US President Donald Trump has often condemned the nuclear deal with Iran, which has been defended by US allies.

But the document was endorsed by the U.N. Security Council in a resolution that further says Iran is "called upon" not to undertake any ballistic missile related activity.

"The world must not allow Iran to act in defiance of the Security Council and its resolutions", Haley said.

Iran has maintained that their non-nuclear development of ballistic missiles is within the bounds of the agreement.

Last month, the USA treasury imposed new embargoes on Iranian companies that provide material support to Iran's military, as well as on organizations involved in the country's ballistic missile program.

Trump has long promised he would take a tough line on the country - including his calls on the campaign trail for the USA to tear up or renegotiate the deal, which he has decried as "the worst deal ever".

Concluded in July 2015 between Tehran and the major powers (Usa, France, Uk, Russia, China, and Germany), the nuclear deal provides for Iran to limit its nuclear program to civilian purposes in exchange for the gradual lifting of global sanctions.

Simorgh (Phoenix) rocket, which Iran launched into space on July 27.

"The US is seeking to withdraw from the JCPOA at the expense of Iran, while we would definitely not give that country (the US) such an opportunity".

The signing of fresh anti-Iran sanctions by Trump is an attempt to destroy the JCOPA, Araqchi, who is also Iran's senior nuclear negotiator, said.

"The main objective of the u.s. law is to frighten the big companies and prevent them from cooperating with Iran". Araqchi said Tehran's response would be "intelligent".
