Alabama escapees used peanut butter in jailbreak

In a story that sounds like something out of a Bugs Bunny cartoon, 12 men incarcerated in an Alabama prison managed to escape this weekend by using peanut butter to trick a guard into letting them out. So when an inmate asked a young, inexperienced jailer to let him into his cell, the jailer was fooled into opening the outside door instead.

"It may sound insane, but these people are insane like a fox", Underwood said.

All but one of the dozen inmates were captured within hours. Brady Andrew Kilpatrick, who was in jail on drug possession charges, still remains at large.

Two of those who escaped were saving prison sentences for attempted murder. "Inmates scheme all the time to con us and our employees at the jail". All other 11 inmates have been recaptured.

"This one time we slipped up".

"He should have been more cautious about it", Underwood said, admitting that the employee "made a mistake". You've got to stay on your toes.

Underwood says the law enforcement officers are taking the blame for this situation. "It was a human error that caused this to happen", he added.

The inmates threw a blanket over the barbed wire fence, which was about 15-feet high, Underwood said. Off-duty personnel have been enlisted to help in the search.

A prison inmate is still on the run after leading a jailbreak that was aided by the use of peanut butter.

Underwood also acknowledged that the jail needs some improvement, such as installing more monitors and cameras.
