Jay-Z's '4:44' Goes Platinum in Less Than a Week

FacebookPinterest

Less than a week after its release, Jay-Z's "4:44" has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Jay-Z's new album "4:44" is now available for a free, easy, and legal download through Tidal's website. "Another platinum adds to an already iconic career".

50 Cent, who is an expert in the art of social media trolling, said "4:44" is "too smart" for the streets. With its announcement of the certification, the RIAA shared a photo of Jay-Z with RIAA CEO Cary Sherman and the platinum plaque, though it's unclear when that photo was taken.

One equivalent album unit, as recognized by the RIAA, is equal to: one album sale, 10 tracks sold from an album, or 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video streams from an album.

The album represents Jay-Z's 13th platinum release.

If you recall, something similar happened with Jay's last album. But regardless of how Jay-Z did it, with 4:44 he now has more platinum albums than any other hip-hop artist in history.

And as a Tidal exclusive, the album hasn't even reached other music-streaming services just yet before gaining its platinum crown, which also means the certification stems from streaming numbers only. Similarly, the certification seemed fast, considering that the album was available (legally, anyway) only to Tidal members and Sprint subscribers.
