Google Introduces 'Google Feed' For Android And iOS

Google rolls out new protections against phishing plugins

Starting today, Google is rolling out Feed for Google app users on Android and iOS in the United States.

The feed is Google Now but better and with a swanky new name that reflects Google's new ambitions. Unlike its social media rival, Google's feed is anxious less about what your friends post and more about giving you the info you want to know at any given moment. "And when available, you'll be able to fact check and see other relevant information to help get a more holistic understanding about the topics in your feed".

Before everyone says it, rest in peace, Google Now, it was nice knowing you. "The more you use Google, the better your feed will be", he explained. At the top of Feed, you'll see Google's characteristic cards of news highlights, sports scores, the local weather and updates on topical events.

"While we each keep up to date on the things that matter to us in different ways-social media, news apps, talking to friends-it's hard to find one place to stay in the know about exactly what matters to you", Thakur wrote.

The feed will show cards based on your previous interactions with Google's services, such as search histories, what you've watched and liked on YouTube, calendar entries, and activities in Chrome.

Though the similarities are clear, Google employees were "adamant that this news feed is nothing like Facebook's News Feed", Wired reported. Google declined to provide information on how many people use the Google app. In the same way as Facebook, Google will surface articles from across the web and present them in a single scrolling screen.

"A quick tap of the follow button and you'll start getting updates and stories about that topic in your feed", Google added. For instance, if a news post is about the healthcare bill, related news from other sources will appear beneath it.

The only way to access the updated news feed right now is by opening up the "Google" app on your phone. Tapping a card's header will also prompt the app to perform a Google search for that particular topic, a feature that Google hopes will make it easier to dive into subjects of interest. Multiple reports claim that the search eventually plans to extend its availability beyond Android and iOS to the web in a bid to target desktop users.

Yes, that means Google.com's infamously blank webpage will now be filled with information curated to whichever user is logged in to their Google account, according to TechCrunch.
