A Newly Discovered Photograph Might Prove That Amelia Earhart Survived Her Flight

Never-Before-Seen Footage Before Amelia Earhart's Last Flight

But a newly emerged photograph, below, featured in History Channel's upcoming special entitled "Amelia Earhart: The Lost Evidence", suggests that Earhart may have survived a crash landing in the Marshall Islands.

A intricate look at the pic, which Kinney reportedly found "buried" in a "formerly top secret" file within the National Archives, reveals two people who bear striking resemblance to Earhart and Noonan, according to People.

The History Channel reports the evidence suggests Earhart might have crashed in the Marshall Islands, then was captured by the Japanese military and died while being held prisoner.

Shawn Henry, a former executive assistant director for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, told NBC News that History's "analysis of the image leaves no doubt to the viewers that that's Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan".

"Amelia Earhart: The Lost Evidence" premieres Sunday, July 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HISTORY.

"I don't know if I could recognize my own mother if that were her in the photograph", Bleakley said. The man believed to be Noonan is facing the camera, so his face could be carefully analyzed by experts.

Josephine Blanco Akiyama, who lived on the island of Saipan as a child, has said for years that she saw Earhart in Japanese custody. (She's wearing trousers, something for which Earhart was known.) She sits near a standing man who looks like Noonan - down to the hairline. They said that they think the photo of the two was taken by someone spying for the U.S.

Aviator Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan have been missing for decades after they departed to circle the Earth on July 2, 1937.

"The hairline is the most distinctive characteristic", facial recognition expert Ken Gibson told NBC. According to TMZ, it is said to have been taken on a South Pacific island days after Earhart's disappearance. "If the government knew they had her to begin with it makes you wonder why they didn't do anything or say anything, what were the politics of the era?"

"The nose is very prominent". However, many records from that time were destroyed during or after World War II. Eighty years since their disappearance, a newly discovered photograph from the USA national archives has given new credence to what really happened to Earhart. Well, Gibson says his side-by-side comparison of body measurements proves the possibility of the woman in the photo being Earhart is "very likely".
