White House Just Won't Say If Trump Believes in Climate Change

"As I indicated several times in the process", Pruitt responded, visibly annoyed, "there is enough to deal with with respect to the Paris Agreement and making an informed decision about this important issue".

"I want the world to know that the USA will meet its Paris commitments and that through partnerships among cities, states and businesses we will seek to remain part of the Paris agreement process", Bloomberg said.

"Amazon continues to support the Paris climate agreement and action on climate change", Amazon spokesperson Melanie Janin said in an email. It is negotiating with the UN to form its own National Determined Contribution - a set of emissions standards for each participating nation under the Paris Agreement - that is accepted alongside the other countries in the accord.

May's office says she spoke to President Donald Trump after his announcement and "expressed her disappointment with the decision".

Billionaire and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg is also working to rally city mayors, 30 of whom have reportedly agreed to join the so far unnamed group, along with 100 businesses and the USCA.

His announcement left the U.S.as the only major country that won't be part of the 195-country global accord - and just one of three worldwide.

CEOs of 30 major corporations, including Bank of America, Dow Chemical, General Electric, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan Chase, wrote an open letter to Trump in a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal in May expressing their "strong support" for the USA remaining in the Paris climate agreement. "We will intensify efforts to meet each of our cities' current climate goals, push for new action to meet the 1.5 degrees Celsius target, and work together to create a 21st century clean energy economy".

Congressman Ted Lieu responded as well, saying, "abandoning the Agreement would also result in the United States ceding its leadership in addressing carbon and methane pollution at a time when we can not afford inaction".

"A lot of the business entities in the United States that have signed up to reducing their emissions have reaffirmed those positions in the last couple of days, so I don't think we're seeing a turning back of the clock to any particularly bad positions..."

General Electric's Jeff Immelt tweeted: "Disappointed with today's decision on the Paris Agreement".

"We are inquiring with Bloomberg as to the plan they are discussing and whether Yale should sign on as well", O'Connor told the News.
