Uber fires 20 employees in harassment investigation

Uber dismisses over 20 employees after law firm's probe

Meanwhile, Uber has hired two senior female executives to fill a void left by recent departures and inject more diversity into its top ranks.

Uber has fired more than 20 staff as part of its investigation into claims of sexual harassment.

Law firm Perkins Coie investigated Fowler's claims and made recommendations, some or all of which will be adopted by the company, the source said on the condition of anonymity, while declining to give further details.

In the post, Fowler, a site-reliability engineer, detailed a horrifying year in which her sexual harassment claims were ignored by Uber's human resources department.

A separate investigation is also going underway at the same time of this disaster by a former United States attorney general, Eric Holder. Those findings have not yet been released and are separate to the ones announced on Tuesday. She ran global consumer marketing of Apple Music and iTunes.

Fowler's blog post recounting her time at uber went viral, as it suggested deeply rooted issues within the company.

The investigation by the outside law firm Perkins Coie looked into 215 claims of inappropriate workplace incidents. The firm had investigated 215 human resources-related problems within the company. The hotline will remain in operation. Out of the cases examined, 100 employees were cleared of wrongdoing; 31 received additional HR training; 7 people were given final warnings; 57 employees and cases are still under review, and 20 people were fired. The results of that investigation were shared with Uber employees Monday.

The company said the worker complaints included charges of sexual harassment, discrimination, bullying and unprofessional behavior.

Uber has taken a step toward improving its tarnished image.

Uber is expected to discuss it with staff next week, a person familiar with the matter said.

For a while, this served it well.

For a while, this worked well, pushing Uber's valuation to almost $70 billion. Rather than including contracted drivers in the investigation, only claims about full-time employees were investigated. It's also been accused of corporate espionage by Waymo, formerly Google's autonomous vehicle arm. "As they get more and more solid evidence to take action, I absolutely believe there will be more firings in the future".

For the last three months, Uber has been seeking a chief operating officer to work alongside Kalanick, who has earned a reputation as a pugnacious leader.
