Rodman says he's going to NKorea to open a door

Report: Pistons great Dennis Rodman headed to North Korea for another visit

He told reporters at Beijing airport on Tuesday that he believes President Donald Trump is happy with his visit "to accomplish something we both need".

However, it has now been confirmed that Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, was holding US$120,000 in cash (RM511,326) when he was killed at Kuala Lumpur airport in February, the Asahi Shimbun reports.

Former NBA star, Dennis Rodman, is heading back to North Korea. The former National Basketball Association star had visited the country three times between 2013 and 2014. But Trump called Rodman's trip in 2013 "smart, " and said Rodman was "street-wise", adding that it might not be a bad idea to pick up the phone when the "world is blowing up around us".

Kim is known to be an avid fan of basketball and Rodman.

Rodman's latest visit coincides with a rapid succession of missile tests from North Korea and warnings that the state has the technology to strike the mainland United States.

It is unclear whether he will also bring up the detention of USA citizens in the country.

The high-profile assassination, which made worldwide headlines, has put North Korea's global spy network under an unwelcome spotlight and sparked a diplomatic row between the North and Malaysia.

Rodman later tweeted: "I'm back!"

Rodman has travelled to North Korea before, though he has been criticised for comments he made on previous trips. It seems unlikely that what this global crisis needed was a little loving from Dennis Rodman, but that might be what we're about to get.

His trip came amid mounting tensions between the USA and the North over Pyongyang's pursuit of nuclear and missile programs. The event soon became overshadowed by politics after Rodman suffered an angry meltdown on CNN before the game when asked whether during the trip he would raise the issue of Kenneth Bae, an American missionary who was detained in North Korea at the time on charges of "anti-state crimes". Rodman, who appeared on Trump's reality TV show in 2009 and again in 2013, went on to endorse Trump's candidacy in 2015.

Kim's passion for basketball was likely inherited from his father, Kim Jong Il, and has been a rare area of common ground for the two nations.

His visit comes as tensions have heightened on the Korean peninsula over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile tests and its vow to develop a nuclear-tipped missile capable of hitting the U.S. mainland.

He won five league championships with the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls.

His 2014 trip made negative headlines in the media which angered Rodman during an interview with CNN. He's claimed some were about trying to use basketball to bridge the divide between the two countries.
