Polanski's victim to play supporting role for him in court now

Roman Polanski Success and Scandal

The now 54-year-old Samantha Geimer said that she had been traumatized by insults, mistreatment and media attention in the aftermath of the 1977 case that has yet to be resolved.

Judge Scott Gordon did not immediately issue a ruling.

Braun wants a deposition from Roger Gunson, the original prosecutor in the case, unsealed because he thinks it will prove his argument that a deal was firmly in place, and that Polanski had reason not to trust the system. Now, Roman's own victim is begging the courts to drop the case and let Polanski return without fear of prosecution.

Polanski's lawyers have been fighting for years to end the case and lift an worldwide arrest warrant that has confined the 83-year-old to France, Poland and Switzerland where he fled during the Holocaust prior to arriving in the U.S.

But in 1978, convinced the judge was going to scrap his plea deal and send him to prison for up to 50 years, he fled to France.

Asked what she planned to tell the judge, Geimer said: "You'll find out when I'm done talking, if I don't have a panic attack first".

Polanski admitted statutory rape after the more serious charges that he drugged, raped and sodomized the teen were dropped, and spent 42 days in custody to undergo psychiatric evaluation before being released.

The warrant prevented Polanski from collecting his Academy Award for best director for his 2002 film "The Pianist".

Making her first public appearance at a court hearing in the case on Friday, Geimer, who was 13-years-old when Polanski assaulted her in Los Angeles in 1977, said she had wanted the criminal case against the film director closed for decades. Geimer will appear Friday, June 9, 2017 in Los Angeles Superior Court to help make the case that Polanski has served his time for the 40-year-old crime.

Braun's aim at Friday's hearing is to unseal testimony about the 1977 plea deal and use it as evidence to get European authorities to rescind the global arrest warrant against Polanski.

Braun hopes to use the testimony to persuade European authorities to rescind the worldwide arrest warrant against Polanski.

The star's lawyer, Harlan Braun, maintains Polanski has already served enough time behind bars, at a state prison in Chino in the late 1970s for a pre-sentencing diagnostic examination, and also in jail and under house arrest in Switzerland in 2009 as Swiss authorities considered an extradition request.

Polanski, whose films include Rosemary's Baby and The Pianist, was arrested on U.S. warrants in both Poland and Switzerland during the past decade, but both countries ultimately declined to extradite him. CNN does not normally identify sexual assault victims, but Geimer identified herself publicly years ago.

Polanski plied the girl with champagne and part of a sedative pill before raping her, according to grand jury transcripts.

Judge Scott Gordon has rejected Polanski's efforts to resolve the case in the director's absence or with a promise that he wouldn't be sentenced to more time or be arrested if he voluntarily returned for a sentencing hearing.
