Pig hauler overturns, pigs on the freeway

Pigs ran loose on I-45 after the semi carrying them crashed

Dozens of pigs got loose after a semi truck crashed into the median on Interstate 45 in Wilmer, Texas, then flipped on its side and burst into flames. The driver was not hurt, local media reported.

Some of the pigs died but police believe they recovered majority.

The back of the truck caught fire during the crash.

The semi truck carrying almost 200 pigs crashed into the center median of I-45 in Wilmer at about 6:30 a.m. and sent pigs scattering onto the road.

Law enforcement officials closed the roadway in both directions as they spent the next several hours rounding up herds of pigs.

'We had a total of 195 [pigs on the semi].

Photos and video from the scene showed livestock handlers trying to corral the hogs trotting along the interstate and rescue the animals left in the trailer. We do not know how many dead-loss or how many ran off, ' he said.
