Paul George, mum on future, urges Pacers to sign better players

Gordon Hayward: 4 possible moves for the Utah Jazz star

Last season, he scored 23.7 points and grabbed 6.6 rebounds, not quite enough to earn a spot on the three all-NBA teams and perhaps costing him an additional $75 million from the Pacers.

Draft night is routinely one of the busiest in the National Basketball Association, with teams scrambling to send in their picks and also negotiating potential swaps with their fellow squads.

It's impossible to tell just yet how this all plays out for Paul George and the Indiana Pacers, but the Pacers can now plan for the future absolutely without the huge hanging questions of what Paul George will do.

The All-Star has reportedly informed the Pacers that he intends to become a free agent next summer and prefers the possibility of joining the Los Angeles Lakers, per Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical. Now, George can easily leave at the end of the 2017-18 season as he has a player option for the 2018-19 season, or hope that he makes an All-NBA team in order to sign a max-deal with the Pacers. They would have to fill out the roster with players on minimum contracts or trade one (or two) of their young talents for multiple players in return, but Los Angeles would get the star forward it needs to help bring the Lakers back to showtime prominence. They're holding the cards, but also face the biggest predicament.

How did George limit his own trade market? Until he recommits to the Indiana Pacers or puts on a different jersey, people are going to keep reporting, speculating and tweeting about his next destination. It would take a winning situation and a promising future to even dream of keeping George past his current contract, but there are some teams that could think of taking the gamble. The Lakers can wait for 2018 and clear space to sign PG-13 outright.
