Panels on 60 UK buildings fail fire safety tests

In a statement, Mr Corbyn, who is at Glastonbury Festival, said: "Tower blocks across the country have now failed fire safety tests in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster".

Those who have evacuated are now preparing to spend a second night out of their homes.

We were advised by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) to submit samples of some of our cladding panels to the Building Research Establishment (BRE) for testing.

The towers have been found to be covered with the same type of cladding as used at Grenfell, five miles to the south west, where at least 79 people died in the June 14 tragedy.

According to the Independent, witnesses at the scene of the 24-storey fire on June14 said a resident told neighbours his fridge had "exploded" while alerting them to the initial blaze, which spread rapidly through the block.

The buildings are located in 17 local authorities across the country, including Manchester, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Barnet, Brent, Hounslow and Camden.

A public inquiry has been ordered to determine how the unsafe cladding was allowed to be fitted in the first place.

Four of the five Chalcots Estate towers in Camden, north London, were deemed unsafe after they were found to use cladding similar to that on Grenfell, widely blamed for the rapid spread of the massive blaze last week.

The council said those issues, combined with the flammable cladding that encased the buildings, meant residents had to leave immediately.

The council said residents would be out of their homes for three to four weeks while it completes fire-safety upgrades.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan backed the Camden Council's decision to evacuate the apartment blocks.

"It was perfectly safe before, despite what they are saying now - I believe I am safe in there". "You don't get everyone to leave this quickly". "You can't play Russian roulette with people's safety", he told Sky News.

Fallout from this month's catastrophic apartment tower fire keeps spreading across the United Kingdom, with more inspection failures and an order to vacate unsafe apartment buildings.

While many people have been able to stay in their homes despite the fire risk, thousands of residents from 650 flats in north London were evacuated on Saturday.

Camden Council leader Georgia Gould said London Fire Brigade inspecting officers had identified concerns over the combination of external cladding, fire doors, gas pipes and insulation at the Chalcots Estate.

Five residential London tower blocks comprising some 800 homes were being evacuated on June 23 due to fire safety concerns.

Around 60 people stayed in nearby Swiss Cottage leisure centre on Saturday night, as 3,000 displaced residents faced weeks in temporary accommodation.

As for the Grenfell Tower investigation, police said they are considering manslaughter charges among the criminal offenses that may have been committed at the high-rise building.

The block is minutes away from Chalcots Estate, where 4,000 people were evacuated on Friday.

But despite being urged to leave by officials, around 20 households had refused to vacate their homes, in Taplow, Burnham, Bray and Dorney blocks, by Saturday evening. Camden Borough Council said in a statement Saturday that it housed numerous residents at two temporary shelters while many others were provided hotel rooms, after inspectors found fire safety issues in housing towers, following the inferno in a west London apartment block that killed 79.
