Eight-time champion Federer to face Zverev in Halle final

June 23 ― Eight-time champion Roger Federer reached the quarter-finals of the Halle grass court tournament for a 15th time yesterday with a 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 win over German serve-and-volleyer Mischa Zverev.

"Andy was exhausted after getting to No. 1 at the end of a year ago and then has been struggling with injuries", The Guardian quoted Federer as saying in Halle on Thursday before his fighting 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win over Mischa Zverev in the ongoing Gerry Weber Open.

The 66th-ranked Sugita was no match for his illustrious opponent, although he did avoid a second-set bagel by breaking when Federer served for the match.

Eighteen-time major champion Roger Federer picked up his first win of the grass-court season by thrashing Japan's Yuichi Sugita in the first round at Halle on Tuesday.

"After I got that in the bag I was really able to start to relax and really play and feel the way I want to feel out there". In the victory, Khachanov won 71 percent of his first serve points and 40 percent of his second serve points. Mayer, who won the title a year ago, ousted Lucas Pouille in three sets.

"It was all a little uncertain because I don't know him that well", said Federer. The Basilea idol obtained a 66 percent of effectiveness with his first serve, gaining 71 percent of almost all his points.

Khachanov was leading 3-2 when Nishikori called it a day and will take on fellow young Russian Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals.

Gasquet will next play Germany's Alexander Zverev, last year's finalist who has won three titles this season, after he muscled past baseliner Roberto Bautista-Agut 6-7 (6) 7-6 (1) 6-1. Zverev dropped the first set in a tight tiebreak, which he lost 8 points to 6.
