Did Google hire Apple's chip designer to make chips for Pixel phones?

Mr. Gulati is reported to have played a key role in the development of Apple's custom A-series SoCs. It is impractical to expect these chip makers to optimize their SoCs to work in ideal conjunction with the hardware choices available to the OEMs - they can get close and certainly do take some popular industry trends into consideration, but the issue persists. We may be looking at the beginning of an Android performance revolution in the works! Building its own chips would give Google tighter control over its hardware. The Pixel and Pixel XL are rightfully called Google's answer to the Apple iPhone, coupling great software with great hardware.

"The Pixel is seen as Google's answer to the iPhone, but considering Apple sells 40 to 50 million iPhones in a quarter, Google has some catching up to do", according to Ars Technica, a tech website. Now it is taking things further by developing its own custom chips that will power future Pixel phones and probably other Google devices.

Read the full Variety report. He is credited as the inventor in 15 patents, including one that has to do with Apple Pay and storing fingerprints, as well as those related to "fundamental chip architecture". Those chips typically run run faster and better than those of rivals, in part because Apple is able to customize them for its phones and its own operating system, iOS. And from the looks of things, the Pixels will be more tightly controlled and integrated than ever.
