Attorney General Sessions to Face US Senate Panel in Public

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, facing fresh questions about his Russian contacts during the election campaign and his role in the firing of James Comey, will be interrogated in a public hearing by former Senate colleagues on Tuesday. Sessions made the request for the open hearing himself.

Sessions had been scheduled to testify on June 13 before the House and Senate subcommittees that oversee his department's budget, but will now testify to the intelligence panel instead, he said on Saturday in letters to the chairmen of those subcommittees, reports CNN.

It was unclear on Sunday whether the committee planned to question the attorney general on Tuesday in an open or closed session.

He did not say whether he would appear in open or closed session.

Now one day ahead of Sessions' testimony before the Senate intelligence committee, Warren voiced strong thoughts about her former colleague.

Comey had last week said that he believed Trump asked him to end an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn, which Trump has denied.

Russian Federation has denied interfering in the US election. Comey said President Trump told Sessions and other administration officials to leave the room before Trump asked him in February to drop a probe into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's contacts with Russian Federation. As mentioned above, since Attorney General Sessions is not testifying at hearings on the Justice Department budget, he'll be replaced by the Deputy Attorney General, Rod Rosenstein - who appointed Robert Mueller as Special Counsel for the Russian Federation probe. Democrats - who have never been the biggest fans of Sessions - say it's time for the Attorney General to talk. Sessions, whose contacts with Russia's ambassador to the US during the presidential campaign has sparked questions, agreed Saturday, June 10, to appear before the Senate intelligence committee as it investigates alleged Russian meddling in the election.

Trump's getting-back-to-work photo op kicked off a week in which he's under siege due to the Russian Federation investigation.

Sessions said it was great to be there to attest to the support Trump has from law enforcement "all over America".

Comey said Thursday that he began documenting his conversations with the president because he had a "gut feeling" Trump might lie about the nature of those meetings.

"It's a very weird and peculiar thing for a one-on-one conversation without the attorney general, without warning, between the president and me or any United States attorney who has been asked to investigate various things and is in a position hypothetically to investigate business interests and associates of the president", said Mr. Bharara, who was sacked by the president hours after he refused to return a call from him.

Fellow Republicans, meanwhile, pressed Trump to come clean about whether he has tapes of private conversations with fired FBI Director James Comey and provide them to Congress if he does - or possibly face a subpoena.
