Attorney General Sessions' Testimony To Senate Panel Will Be Public

The agency's response to a freedom of information request submitted by The Wall Street Journal doesn't exclude the possibility that recordings could have been created by another entity.

Following Comey's public testimony last Thursday, he told senators in a closed hearing that afternoon that Sessions may have had a third interaction with Russia's ambassador to the U.S., according to people familiar with the briefing.

Trump still has not confirmed whether or not tapes exist and, when pressed about it Friday, said, "I'll tell you about that maybe sometime in the very near future".

Sessions' testimony comes less than a week after Comey's explosive account before the same panel in which he asserted that President Trump fired him in order to derail the bureau's wide-ranging investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials. "When he's ready to further discuss, he will".

Tuesday's hearing will be the first time Sessions has testified in Congress since that recusal and Comey's ouster.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, whose contacts with Russia's ambassador to the US during the presidential campaign have sparked questions, has agreed to appear before the Senate intelligence committee.

The decision to testify publicly, according to a Justice Department spokeswoman, is because "he believes it is important for the American people to hear the truth directly from him".

The Justice Department says Sessions looks forward to answering the committee's questions.

CNN previously reported that congressional investigators are examining whether Sessions had an additional private meeting with the Russian ambassador in April 2016 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington.

Sessions stepped aside in March from the federal investigation into contacts between Russia and the campaign after acknowledging that he had met twice past year with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. The former senator from Alabama told lawmakers at his January confirmation hearing that he had not met with Russians during the campaign.

The president and aides noted that Comey testified that he told Trump three times he was not personally under investigation over Russian contacts.

Another Republican close to the White House said Trump's tape comments appeared similar to the hard-nosed tactics he took when his company was facing litigation.

"As the participants started to leave the Oval Office, the attorney general lingered by my chair but the president thanked him and said he wanted to speak only with me", Comey wrote in his statement.

Conway stressed that Democratic Sen. She described Comey's testimony as "candid" and "thorough" and said she would support a subpoena of any tapes if needed.

A day after The Washington Post reported that, Sessions recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation.

The White House refused Monday to divulge any new details about President Trump's promise to address questions about whether there were audio recordings of his conversations with then-FBI Director James B. Comey.

In an interview Monday on Fox News' "Fox & Friends", Ivanka Trump says political life still surprises her and that "there is a level of viciousness I was not expecting".

"I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go", Comey quoted Trump as saying.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren's seemingly fraught history with now-Attorney General Jeff Sessions is no secret.

Trump's aides have dodged questions about whether conversations relevant to the Russian Federation investigation have been recorded, and so has the President.

Comey's hints to the Senate Intelligence Committee, however, suggest that he knew of more contacts or other relationships that made him and the rest of the top Federal Bureau of Investigation leaders expect that Sessions would take himself out of the game. And Sessions has sat through enough hearings to know his answers will come back to bite him if there is even an element of untruth.
