Apple reportedly begins production of its Siri speaker

We already knew that Apple was gearing up to take on Amazon Echo and Google Home, and Bloomberg is now reporting that production of the Siri-controlled smart speaker has begun.

The Cupertino-based company has reportedly started manufacturing its Siri-powered speaker aimed at dethroning the likes of the Amazon Echo and Google Home. It will be a challenge to Amazon's Echo and Alphabet Inc's Google Home, providing integration with Apple's products as well as virtual surround sound technology.

It would also help make Apple's HomeKit smart home software more useful, since users now have to coordinate their devices with an AppleTV or an iPad. Apple may be looking to integrate sensors into the speaker to measure a room's acoustics and adjusting audio levels automatically during use.

So far Apple's digital voice assistant can only be heard on the company's handset products, but soon a new speaker "Designed by Apple in California" will be voiced by Siri. The device is expected to feature support for Siri and AirPlay and include Beats speaker technology.

Bloomberg also revealed that Apple won't integrate a screen in its first iteration of the Siri Speaker. It's not expected to ship until later this year, however. Whether Apple ever reveals a new auto or not, it is intent on the internet of things world and you can consider devices like the Apple Watch an early foray into future connected health devices. He expects service revenue to double by 2020 from last year's US$24 billion (RM103 billion). Needless to say that the Apple's Siri-enabled speaker would mainly attract users who are dependent on the Apple ecosystem and uses a large number of products and services of Apple's. The introduction of a speaker to give the division a boost as it will complement service products such as its subscription music streaming offering, Apple Music.

So... why should you get this over Amazon and Google's efforts, then? Hopefully, that will change with the new smart speaker from Apple.

With the launch of a new iPhone - possibly called the iPhone 8 - later this year, the new iOS will be tailored to work on the upcoming handset.
