Advertisers withdrawing from Megyn Kelly's show due to Alex Jones interview

It was not immediately clear how many companies had pulled ads from this week's edition of "Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly". His view that the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School was just a hoax angered many.

Kelly said that she found Jones's suggestion that the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax "as personally revolting as every other rational person does".

As you may already be aware, Megyn Kelly has received on social media from family members of Sandy Hook victims.

The filmmaker spent a lot of time with the town's residents while filming Newtown, a documentary about the community's experience in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, in which a man killed 20 children and six adult staff members on December 14, 2012, before taking his own life. Kelly is being widely criticized for her upcoming NBC interview with Alex Jones, a conspiracy theorist who claims the shooting didn't happen. Pelley's interview generated some criticism, but not to the level surrounding Kelly's interview with Jones. The right doesn't like her because of her face-off with Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Showtime's four-hour special, "The Putin Interviews", features former KGB head Vladimir Putin palling around with the who-killed-"JFK" director Oliver Stone: " ... why did you bother to hack the election then?" asks Stone. And now here comes Megyn Kelly, giving him the privilege of a face-to-face interview on NBC to be aired this weekend.

Now I do hope Kelly gives the man a hard time and possibly even does a tag after the interview where she hacks away at some of the verbal kudzu Jones will surely upchuck during his allotted time.

A serious investigation of Jones by America's top news network would do the real work of journalism: spreading the truth and holding an influential figure accountable for his risky lies.

That being said, I think it was a bad choice on her part and on NBC's. "While it's not always popular, it's important".

"They're scared of what we're doing", Jones said.

Here's the way out: Kill the planned segment as a one-on-one interview, and use the material as one piece of a no-holds-barred investigation of Alex Jones and others like him. He's been elevated by five or six million viewers or listeners, and by the president of the United States.

The interview has put Kelly, who jumped to NBC from Fox News Channel earlier this year, squarely back in the headlines.

When Kelly called Jones out for saying parents "faked their children's death" about the Newtown shooting, Jones retaliated and said, "Yeah, well they don't get angry about the half million dead Iraqis from sanctions".

After his interview had been taped, Jones denounced it on "InfoWars" as "fake news, in my view".
