800 households evacuated in London among fire concerns

She added: "Together we decided that the Taplow block needs to be temporarily decanted while we undertake urgent fire safety works so that residents can be fully assured of their safety".

Ms Gould said it was expected the work would take three or four weeks, adding: "We realise that this is hugely distressing for everyone affected and we will be doing all we can, alongside the London Fire Brigade and other authorities, to support our residents at this hard time".

"I'm at a loss as to why Theresa May has not convened (emergency committee) Cobra today to get emergency arrangements led by central government to support local authorities, to give the residents the necessary reassurance and address this issue". She added that equivalent aluminum composite tiles used as cladding in a recent refurbishment of the building had failed initial safety tests.

A total of 79 people are presumed dead in the June 14 Grenfell Tower blaze in Kensington, west London.

And a council spokeswoman said fire safety was "paramount in the construction and management of all council buildings, including offices and schools".

One shirt bearing the London Ambulance Service logo said: "We refuse to forget you".

"Grenfell changes everything", she said, referencing last week's devastating fire at Grenfell Tower.

Refurbishment on the Chalcots estate in Camden was overseen by Rydon, the company involved in the refit of Grenfell Tower, according to the Rydon website.

The government has ordered immediate testing of the Hotpoint fridge freezer that was involved.

The Hotpoint fridge-freezers were manufactured by Italian company Indesit between 2006 and 2009 before the company was bought by Whirlpool.

London Police say manslaughter charges are among moves being considered over the Grenfell Tower fire that killed at least 79 people. The call comes after London Mayor Sadiq Khan's pledge to seek an amnesty for people who may have been living in the tower illegally. "That's the number I'm really anxious about".

While the new information provides details about the fire's source, McCormack said investigators are working to determine why the blaze spread so quickly and with such tragic effects.

Four more victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster have been formally identified, police said.

Although Peter O'Reilly, county fire officer of Geater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service, declared the service satisfied that the building was safe, the organisation acted immediately to start removing the cladding.

"What we are being told at the moment by the Building Research Establishment is that the cladding and insulation failed all safety tests".

Fears about cladding is not limited to apartment buildings, and at least one hotel chain is calling in experts to make certain it meets safety regulations. Early tests of materials used on the building's exterior returned alarming results, she said.
