Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater throws during first day of OTAs

Last offseason, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a gruesome injury, one that looked like it could potentially be career-ending. No comments or context.

Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman said he and Head Coach Mike Zimmer "spent numerous hours" talking with Floyd before deciding to sign him. But the team had a healthy turn out for practice Wednesday at Winter Park.

While Bradford played decently in 2016 (3,877 yards, 20 touchdowns, five interceptions) and led the Vikings to an 8-8 record, a healthy Bridgewater would compete for the starting job and create an interesting quarterback controversy in Minnesota. But at least he is not grinding defensive cut-ups, stalking the sidelines and barking at players in May.

Entering his sixth season in the NFL, the 27-year-old Floyd still has plenty of good football left before he retires and he talked about what he can offer to the Vikings' offense in 2017.

That made Floyd the fresh face of old news Wednesday. He was able to have the house arrest sentence, which is set to expire June 17, transferred to Minnesota.

Part of that support system is the presence of college teammates Harrison Smith and Kyle Rudolph, who is hosting Floyd at his house while he re-acclimates himself to life in the Twin Cities.

"I just texted him and told him I'm sleeping downstairs", Floyd said Wednesday after his second practice with the team he signed with two weeks ago. "There's no, 'No.' We've known each other too long to say no".

"I'm not doing any of that", Floyd said, animatedly. He said earlier this month he believes Minnesota could do the same for Floyd.

"I figured I'd save some money", Floyd said with a smile.

Will you ever watch it? But, ultimately, Floyd's "last-straw" opportunity will be up to him.

"Everything I've been through was eye-opening", Floyd said. "I'm glad to be home". "I never expected something like this to happen, but I'm excited to be home and playing with guys that I know and to be with my family".

"He's the guy that is probably most behind, even behind the rookies, because they have another week on him", offensive co-ordinator Pat Shurmur said.
